This last essay "how to make a TV show that doesn't suck" really hits close to home because I too lived in downtown Philly for ten years without the advantages of cable tv and lousy reception with rabbit ears. I read loads of books, watched loads of movies and listened to loads of music - just like somebody from the 1940's. I didn't miss a thing by not watching television although I've got to agree with you about Twin Peaks being great, but other than that, episodic televison shows are highly over rated. I watch a lot of cable tv today, but mostly sports and Turner Classic Movies, both of which I can not do without at this point in my life.
