Hard to believe, I know.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6380232356803921253.post-18342251222747584612008-02-28T11:43:00.000-05:002008-02-28T11:43:00.000-05:00I've been "reading" -- via audiobook -- Ian Flemin...I've been "reading" -- via audiobook -- Ian Fleming's "Goldfinger" -- great fun, and probably the only thriller in history (possibly the only novel of any genre not written by P.G. Wodehouse) to recount in detail an entire eighteen holes of a round of golf.

The movie actually keeps pretty close to the book, and even improves on it quite often, as in this exchange (if I remember correctly):

Bond: "Do you expect me to talk, Goldfinger?"

Goldfinger: "No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die."Dan Leohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01603402268945559679noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6380232356803921253.post-52534822107819915402008-02-28T08:02:00.000-05:002008-02-28T08:02:00.000-05:00Re Shirley Bassey: Some set of lungs on that Dame!...Re Shirley Bassey: Some set of lungs on that Dame!
I love where she starts laughing halfway through--she almost loses it.
And I like to think her hand gestures represent the US and Soviet blocs in their dangerous dance of death, framed by unbearable Cold War tensions and threat of nuclear annihilation.
I've got to rent Goldfinger, now!
